Chapter 30: Alice and Max Fight the Transfigurans
“The Transfigurans were the monster all along!” King Edward screamed. “Brace yourselves, brethren! It’s a trap!”
Suddenly, the giant water sea serpent turned into dozens of tiny little bat-like creatures with dark and hideous faces. As the form of the dragon dissipated, the Transfigurans, the evil Queen’s henchmen, started to come into shape. They transformed into their evil and natural form, into black evil goblins with wicked wings and sharp claws and white eyes blazing in the darkness. They giggled and guffawed as thousands of them swarmed viciously around.
Then after a moment, they swarmed around trying to taunt the King’s People. Flying out into the nightly day, they escaped and all journeyed far away from the caves where the rest of the survivors lay, confused and tired.
“What was that, my liege?” Douglass asked, putting his arrows back into his quiver. “They all formed into one giant nucleus and fooled us all!”
“Aye, indeed,” Edward said, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Grub…” Winston began.
“Oh, that devil!” Douglass spat. “He would’ve killed us all to escape death.”
“It is enough,” Edward said, his blue eyes shining in the pale moonlight. “He chose his fate. It is not for us to say what more evil he might have done. The Great Light will prevail. Come, let’s leave this place. Now we must warn our people. And those in the City.”
