Gentle Giant
Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders — Psalm 77
Your way, O God, is holy.
What god is great like our God?
You are the God who works wonders — Psalm 77
I cry and moan
My heart’s a stone
In the night I stretch out
But my soul swims away like trout
I think of Him and groan
I cannot speak or think to phone
Him or anyone, I don’t want to seek
I am so troubled I cannot speak
The old days I consider
I remember them so bitter
I search my heart
My spirit breaks apart
Will He never return?
The happiness I yearn?
Will he favor?
Or savor His flavor?
Has love been cut off?
Will peace be sought?
Are His promises at an end?
Will compassion He send?
Is His anger kindled?
Will He shut me out? Was I swindled?
I shout, “It is my grief,”
“That God is gone,” no relief.
But then as I sit
And call to mind my wit
I remember the deeds
I remember the seeds
I see your wonders
I know your great thunders
I imagine your ways
The God who never strays
What god is great
Like He who never berates?
Is there one who loves
So great a mercy, He shoves
Into our life
Filling it with rife
When the sea saw you
It shook and I knew
That you were distant
But still, as I went
Looking in the temple
You were there so simple
Still like the calm waters
Lavishing on us fodders
Bringing me out of the storm
You stop it and hook us with a worm
You lead us out and into light
And then no more night
You are quiet
Like a strong giant
Placing me on the shore
To return when I need more
The deep trembled
I couldn’t assemble
Any might
Out of sight
The lightnings flashed
And you came at last
In the fourth hour
When in the shower
I needed you most
But you came without a boast
And you save
I was a wretch in the wave
You pulled me out
And now I shout
Singing your ways
Loving your gentle gaze
But yet no one saw you
Your footprints only I knew
